Local Support

Types of Support
1
Local Life Orientation and Airport Pickup
Before starting your study abroad experience, you will participate in an online orientation hosted by EduAbroad, where you will learn all the details about the program. This orientation covers important aspects such as the mindset needed for study abroad, what is expected of you, and how to handle issues that may arise during your time abroad. There will also be ample time for questions, helping to relieve any concerns and ensuring you can start your study abroad experience with confidence. Once students arrive at their destination, an experienced EduAbroad airport guide will greet them in Japanese and introduce them to their new host family.
2
Regular Communication and Reporting
We will contact students on their first day, at the end of the first week, and on the final day of the program. If you have any questions or concerns, we are always available to assist. We share the student’s experiences with parents and support the resolution of any issues that arise during the trip. For long-term study abroad, we will provide monthly academic reports and offer academic support if needed.
3
Emergency Response
We encourage students to handle minor issues arising from cultural or language differences on their own as part of their personal growth. However, in the event of an unexpected situation, we are fully prepared to handle any emergencies. We work directly with the student, school, and host family to quickly resolve serious issues and ensure that the student can enjoy a fulfilling study abroad experience.

Additionally, if a student needs to return home unexpectedly, we will assist with the necessary procedures. In the case of a medical emergency, our team members are available to accompany the student and provide translation services during medical consultations. This comprehensive support is possible thanks to our San Diego-based team.
Support Stories
Homesick Overseas
Sometimes, our younger students can get very homesick. The new environment, language barrier, and distance from their family can be a huge emotional burden. A student in 7th grade participating in our local school experience program for 2 weeks reached out to us, feeling sad and homesick on the very first day. Even though it was midnight, our support team stayed on the phone with him and encouraged him in Japanese. He cried a lot, but stayed strong and went to school the next day. Once he started making friends, he was having such a great time and was able to complete the program without a problem. One day after returning home, his mother messaged us to share that he seemed to be living with more confidence and that she was very happy about the result of his study abroad experience.
Life-saving Response
One of our students called us, concerned about an extremely severe stomachache. On a scale of 1-10, he reported his pain as a 9.5. Because of the intense pain, he was quickly escorted to the ER and it was discovered that he had a condition that needed immediate operation, without which there could be severe repercussions to the rest of his life. Our team attempted to contact the student's guardians, but they were unable to answer due to the time difference. Thankfully, a member of our team was there to present relevant paperwork authorizing the operation, prove insurance, and to interpret difficult medical terminology for the student. You can trust us to ensure the safety and protection of your child.
